Ottawa, March 3, 2021 — The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) successfully concluded its first virtual lobby week. CNA representatives met with over 55 members of Parliament, ministers and political staff to discuss CNA’s Recommendations for Budget 2021 [PDF, 163.9 KB]. Also, hundreds of letters from nurses and Canadians were sent to their MPs in support of CNA’s priorities in advance of our virtual lobby week.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many health-care issues in Canada and drawn national attention to the urgency of tackling them,” said CNA president Tim Guest. “During our virtual lobby week, we urged parliamentarians to consider CNA’s recommendations for the upcoming federal budget. These priorities will improve the health and well-being of people in Canada and address the tremendous shortfalls in long-term care.”

In addition to the virtual lobby week, CNA ran a two-week virtual letter-writing campaign. CNA asked all nurses and the Canadian public to lend their voices by urging their MPs to support CNA’s budget recommendations. CNA is grateful to see that hundreds of nurses and Canadians participated.

“In February, CNA was also recognized as one of the top 100 lobbyists in Ottawa by the Hill Times, showcasing how we have been hard at work representing the priorities of nurses to parliamentarians and political decision-makers within the federal government,” said Michael Villeneuve, chief executive officer of CNA. “We are grateful to the Hill Times team for including CNA in this prestigious list for a second time.”
