For more than 35 years CNA was engaged in a number of programs and partnerships inside and outside of Canada to promote nursing in global health, development and health system policy-making.
Strengthening Nursing Associations — Working to advance nursing, CNA supported national nursing associations (NNA) in developing countries beginning in 1976. CNA’s long-term, capacity-building approach assisted NNA partners in becoming sustainable, successful organizations, well-equipped to help their countries deal with health challenges. CNA undertook this work in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), whose funding made it possible. Funding from CIDA ended on March 31, 2012.
The CNA Global Health Partnerships Retrospective [PDF, 1.1 MB] describes CNA’s partnership program (1976-2012) with NNAs and its achievements in strengthening NNAs’ contribution and the voice of nursing within the global health environment.
CNA continues to maintain links with nursing associations through the relationships built over the years in partnerships and programming and through the International Council of Nurses.
